Vermont Trains

Trains were first invented in the 1800's. They were used a lot back then and trains are still used today.

They used trains mostly for bringing coal and other supplies to cities and towns. Trains were also used to carry logs for large wood industries in the United States. After a while people decided to bring people back and forth from town to town. They started charging people for the ride. They could take that money that was earned from bringing people back and forth and use it for repairs on the train. They could bye knew parts like lights, wheels, brakes. They could also pay the people that work on the train like the engineers and the conductors.

when trains where first built it was kind of like when we found out about space travel because people where so impressed. Trains are still used today but trains today aren't steam engines like in the olden days, but they work just as well because nowadays we have diesel engines in our trains. They can go just as fast but can pull a lot more because they have bigger engines. We can also use our trains in the snow because we have snow plows on our trains so the trains can't get stranded somewhere and so the trains don't get derailed.

The names of the main trains in Vermont today are the Rutland Railroad, Vermont Railroad. The Vermont Railroad has a lot of different trains and has one of the biggest piggy back fleets in the world. Its tractor trailer truck trailers are carried by trains all over the world, and then hitched up to trucks and brought to different places.
