Mad River Glen ski resort is known for its peacefulness , great snow , and challenging trails. Since its beginning in 1948 the ski resort has been great. Mad river is located on Stark mountain in Warren. The whole ski resort was planned from scratch. Their first chairlift was a single chair and nearly a mile long. Now its the only single chairlift in the nation.
The founder, Roland Palmedo had a wonderfully laid out ski resort. Him and two other people who go by the names of Robert Schwarzenbach and Nancy Reynolds planned out the first trails. One of their most famous trails is the Catamount chute and another is the Grand Canyon trail. But now a days they have got one of the most extreme skiing trails in the east, Paradise. When Mad River was started people who owned it were people around the community who either housed , fed , or pretty much people who cared for the visitors. Now they have got a cooperative group where if you buy some stock for there you own part of the company. But if you buy stock you have to spend at least two-hundred dollars there. Some of the lodges that they have got there are the Ulla lodge , the Basebox lodge, and the Birchluff lodge. At the opening ceremonies miss Vermont, Jean Peatman unlocked the lift lock to open the ski resort. One of the staff personnel says that there hasn't been any changes there since 1963 but there most likely have been because of things like lift adjustments and lodge improvements but Mad River doesn't like to talk about changes. Just to show you how much Mad River doesn't like to change on their 40th anniversary they issued a bulletin that said two thousand bales of hay were spread over the trails to induce and create topsoil on the steepest pats of the trails Mad River hopes not to make any until past the year two-thousand. Betsy Pratt, the former owner, says that manager Ken Quackenbush planned out most of the trails there. Most people wonder how Mad River can still be around when they are right next door to Sugarbush and a little ways down the road from Stowe. There is only one answer that I can think of and that is because of its expert terrain and beautiful snow. Mad River doesn't allow snow-boarders in their resort because they don't like having the noise of snowboarders around, also snowboarders might get hurt because of the narrow trails. Mad River skiers are different from other skiers in three ways. The first way is the loyalty that they have towards the ski resort. The second reason is that they all love natural snow and they hate the so called artificial snow. And the third reason is that they are insane. What I mean by that is that they ski over cliffs and waterfalls and then just listen to the name Mad River Glen and that will basically tell you just how insane they are. That is my report and I sure hope that you decide to ski there. |
