Welcome to our Web site!We practice on Otter Creek and Lake Champlain after school. We have two rowing seasons; our spring season of 2007 will begin with the Snow Row in early March, and continue until mid-June, this year our fall season began with the start of school and ended with the Ice Breaker. We participate in races during both of these seasons. The team consists of both middle school and high school students, with our coach, Mr. West, who is a teacher at V.U.H.S.! We encourage students to come check this sport out. Everyone is welcome, and we have a lot of fun being out on the water.
VUHS ROWERS SWEEP EVENT
Participating in the James Wakefield Rescue Row sponsored by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum on October 6th, the Vergennes Rowing team took first place in all three divisions. Nine schools from Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont with over 180 rowers competed in the October 13th annual event held at Burlington Waterfront. The Vergennes Team surprised everyone, by not only being the first Vermont team to win the event but also to capture first in all three groups. The team, consisting of Damion Strona, Dan Averill, Ethan Baldwin, Justin Lalumiere, Jarrett Clark, Patrick McCarthy, and coxswain, Adam Bunde finished first in First Oar Sixes category. The team of Marlena Delisle, Ashley Erikson, Peter McDurfee, Josh West, and coxswain, Mavis Stansbery finished first in Novice Oar Fours. Being the youngest rowers at the event the team of Jesse Bunde, Robert Burbo, Max Campono, Dale Erikson, Devan Roberts and John Gilbert finished first in Novice Oar Sixes. The team’s next event will be The Icebreaker: Northeast Regional Youth Open Water Rowing Championships, to be held in Boston November 17th.
On the 17th of November the VUHS Rowing Team headed to Boston to participate in the Youth Rowing Championships. The Icebreaker: Northeast Regional Youth Open Water Rowing ChampionshipsThe Vergennes Rowers headed to Boston this past weekend to participate in The Icebreaker: Northeast Regional Youth Open Water Rowing Championships. The team made a huge impression on the other teams from Vermont as well as Massachusetts, Maine, New York and Connecticut. Vergennes was entered in four events and when the day was over they came home with three first place finishes and one third. The third place race was so close that only six seconds separated the top 3 teams. Not bad for a team that has no access to practicing in the ocean before this championship. The team of Dan Averill, Ethan Baldwin, Adam Bunde, Jarrett Clark, Justin Lalumiere, Damion Strona, and Pat McCarthy captured first in two events, the Second Pilot Gig event and the notorious Nautical Mile Event. The team of Jesse Bunde, Robert Burbo, Max Campano, Dale Erikson, Devon Roberts, and Jason Sampson captured top honors in the Coxed Pilot Gig Event. The team of Marlena Delisle, Ashley Erikson, Peter McDurfee, Hilary Sedelnick, Mavis Stansbury and Josh West took home third place honors in the Novice Coxed Fours Race. The top three teams in this event were only six seconds apart.
