Assessment/Evaluation Spring 2008
9th GRADE TECHSPLORATION A-day or B-day, 1 semester .5 Credit Required Grade 9
This course will be in two parts.
1. In the keyboarding portion, students will develop their speed and accuracy to at least 40 words per minute with 90% accuracy. If students are already at this level, then this course will allow them to improve their speed and accuracy.
2. The balance of the course will address the Grades 9-12 Vermont Grade Expectations in Information Technology. In addition to becoming competent keyboarders, students will become familiar with:
A. The basic operations and concepts of Computer Hardware, Operating Systems, Organization and Navigation and working with files.
B. The social, ethical and human issues impacted by technology includng but not limited to Intellectual Property, Acceptable Use and Working with Content and Information.
C. Productivity Tools commonly known as Word Processors, Databases, Spreadsheets, Paint/Draw and Visual Organizers.
D. Communication Tools including Multi-media, World Wide Web, Email, Digital Imaging, Digital Video and MP3 audio formats.
E. Research, Problem Solving and Decision Making, students will explore onsite resources, search engines, interent browsers, identify useful resources and use technology to make informed decisions.
The information technology component of this course will be comprised of three distinct units of study.
1. Computers - History and the basic operations and concepts of Computer Hardware, Operating Systems, Organization and Navigation and working with files.
2. Digital Imaging and Sound - Still cameras, video cameras and the functions of Audacity to record and input sound sources.
3. Information Literacy - Students will explore onsite resources, search engines, interent browsers, identify useful resources and use technology to make informed decisions.
