About Us

We are a 7th through 12th grade public Middle/High School
located in Addison County, Vermont,
approximately 8 miles from Lake Champlain

We are committed to using a personalized learning approach, within a multi-tiered system of supports, in order that all children progress.

Building-wide Initiatives:

Morning Meeting:  Each student has an advisor, and meets daily in a group of 10 - 15 students. The same students and a teacher stay together for 7th and 8th grade, and then in a different group, for 9th through 12th grades. We believe that personalization matters.  Learn more.

Callback:  Students and teachers can "call students back" to work on classwork missed or misunderstood. Time is set aside every day for them to meet. We believe that students should make up work or relearn what they do not understand.  Learn more.

PBGR (Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements):  PBGRs will be transitioning into Transferable Skills for School Year 2017-2018
In order to graduate, each VUHS learner creates and maintains a Graduation Portfolio that documents evidence of skills, knowledge, and enduring understanding as an autonomous, lifelong learner. The Graduation Portfolio must show proficiency in each of the following requirements. Each learner will give a final presentation and defense of their portfolio in their senior year. We believe that all students should be proficient in these performance based standards before they graduate.  Learn more.

HoW (Habits of Work): HoW  will be transitioning into Transferable Skills for School Year 2017-2018
Habits of Work represents standards that all students can and should meet in addition to course content standards. HoW grades will will be the basis for a decision about academic eligibility for athletics and all co-curriculars. In other words, a student may sit out if they are not meeting or exceeding the HoW standards, regardless of their present content grade.      Full Letter To Parents  |  HoW Rubric
