Current Events

This course encourages students to explore and understand the world around them. Although the topic of the course is current events, this class is more than acquiring news and presenting it. The class will require researching and understanding the history behind the topics. We will look at the historical aspects of current events to understand
how and why things are happening, not just what is happening. Students will explore events, understand the motivations and actions taken by different people and groups, evaluate decisions, and predict the future. Students will gain both research and critical thinking skills. Those interested in Latin and South American, African, or Asian affairs might find this class an excellent outlet for their interests because it will provide them opportunities to further their understanding of these areas. However, anyone with an interest in the current state of the world is encouraged
to take this class. Student input will be essential in deciding which topics will be explored. Students should be prepared to actively participate on a daily basis.
