2010 Head of the Weir
Last Friday 10/22 the VUHS Rowing team consisting of Jarrett Clark, Chelsea Ross, Dale Eriksen (team captains), Max Campono, Jesse Bunde, Joe Krayewsky, Cody Hutchins, Rachel Clark, and Kelsey Dobson headed to Boston for the Head of the Weir Race. Having lost in their first race of the season by a mere three seconds the rowers were bound and determined to come home winners. The Head of the Weir is a 5.5 mile race open to all types of boats, shells, kayaks, developmental, ocean shells and pilot gigs to name just a few. The team needs to row there boat one mile to the start of the race before the 5.5 mile race even begins at the head of the Weir river. From here the rowers are given a number and the race is formatted in the LeMans style start (each boat starts in 30 second intervals). The Vergennes rowers facing winds of 20mph and gusts up to 40 mph rowed like the champs that they are and finished over six minutes ahead from the second place finishers (which was the Sound School from Conn. whose only school sport is rowing) and 30 minutes ahead of the third place team. Congratulations go out to Jarrett Clark, Chelsea Ross, Dale Eriksen (team captains), Max Campono, Jesse Bunde, Joe Krayewsky, Cody Hutchins, Rachel Clark, and Kelsey Dobson.
