“The VUHS Cross Country team has something that no one else has.”

            by Shep Carter

The VUHS Cross-Country team has had a season filled with muddy races, new friendships, and amazing experiences. They finished the season up with the state meet on Saturday October 26, 2011 in Theftord, Vermont.
The Cross-Country team has had six meets so far and they have improved almost every time they run. They have thrived under great training from their new coach, Eric Carter. They have run in some of the greatest conditions of the year and the worst, but that’s not enough to slow them down. “Mud, rain, freezing cold temperatures is What Cross- Country is all about” says senior co-captain David Manuel Clancy. David has been running since he was in 7th grade and when asked what it meant to take on the role of captain he said “It’s an amazing accomplishment. I feel very honored and privileged to be able to lead this team, along side of Shep Carter, to a great season. The VUHS Cross-Country Team has something no one else has. I have been on many sports teams, and XC has always been the tightest group”.
Vergennes has run in South Burlington, Burlington, Middlebury, Essex, Theftord, and Vergennes. The team consists of Matteo Palmer, David Clancy, Jarret Laflech, Josh Hutchins, Seb Crowell, Shep Carter, and Noah Praamsma. They will finished the meet and Saturday and had a fairly good day. Shep Carter took 7th place with a time of 18:18 followed by Jarret Laflech and David Clancy with places of 47 and 52. Overall, the team had a great season and a great state meet.

Middlebury Hockey 101
By Erik Averill
“It’s not always about winning; it’s the spirit behind the game.”
Season Record of last year: 12-5-4
“We have done the unthinkable. We took the Division II title from Stowe on March 15th, 2011. Now we’re gunning for the D1 title this year. We are the underdogs in this next hockey season but all of us are ready to practice hard, battle it out, and go to war with anyone as brothers. Together we stand, together we fight, together we fall, and together we triumph. We let no one disrespect us on our home rink. We have shared blood, sweat and tears with each other and we’re proud to call ourselves the Middlebury Tigers.

Spare Time is up to you in Addison County
By Stanley Salley
Living in Addison County leaves one with few things to do, but with these few things you are able to do you can have the time of your life while doing it. With Addison County being quite small compared to Chittenden County and living in the country instead of the city you’re able to go outside in your backyard a ride a four wheeler  for hours on end and with all the woods you can just walk out back and go hunting with either a buddy or yourself.
When the snow finally hits the ground and piles up you’re able to ride your snowmobiles on the VAST trails that run through Addison County or you can just call up a friend and have a snowball fight in your backyard. Living in Addison County is a treat to most because there is a bunch of farms around and you have a lot of open space and back-roads which gives you unlimited suggestions of things you’re able to do. If you’re a creative person and are looking to have a great time Addison County is the ideal place to grow up in.
