THINKING OF SERVING ALCOHOL?

Maybe your plans include having these teens leave their keys with you or spending the night.

Seem like a reasonable plan???

Our suggestion: Think twice after reading this web page! Our kids need boundaries to keep them safe. Keep your party alcohol and drug free.  As parents we have to grapple with situations like these in many arenas.

The Laws In Vermont

Even if you are on your own property you can be imprisoned 2 years or fined $2,000 if you sell or furnish alcohol to a minor.  If you provide a place for underage drinking to occur, you may also be held accountable.

If a minor who consumed alcohol at the party breaks a law, you may be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Parents or other adults may be held responsible if there is property damage, fighting, sexual assault or any other injury. If someone dies, you may be prosecuted with involuntary manslaughter.

Adults who sell or furnish to a minor or  provides a place to drink & that minor "while operating a motor vehicle on a public highway causes death or serious bodily injury, that person shall be imprisoned up to five years or fined not more than $10,000 or both."  That addition bumps the case of furnishing, selling or enabling up to a felony.
