Team Phoenix News

Expedition Evening - The 'Vernal in Vermont' expedition finale is Thursday May 10th from 5:00-6:00.  Festivities will start in the library and move to the auditorium for more presentations.  Unless parents are coming to see a specific performance, they can come and go as they see fit. Students should be here to set up between 4:30-4:45.

Northland Job Corps Field TripThe seventh grade visited the Northlands Job Corps on Tuesday May 8th.  Job Corps students gave us tours and educated our team about their programs.  We broke down some stereotypes about Job Corps as well.

Willowell Trip-Team Phoenix will re-visit the Willowell property in Monkton on Monday, May 14th as part of a wetland restoration project.  We will spend the day planting trees and shrubs. Students should dress for a day of working and learning outside.

Green Up Day - Green Up Day was Saturday, May 5th.  On Wednesday, May 9th, Team Phoenix completed a mini version of Green-Up day on the school grounds.

Books

If you have borrowed books from Ms. McGrath's library, it's time to return them.

Science

We field-tested several potential vernal pools at the end of March and the beginning of April.  Classroom work over the last month has included vernal pool food web research and report writing.  Students are currently compiling the data we have collected in the field and determining if the wetlands we visited in Bridport are indeed vernal pools.  The final product for this investigation will be a written report submitted to the Vermont Vernal Pool Mapping Project. Mr. Oxley

Mathematics

We are finishing our geometry unit.  This will include work with two- and three-dimensional shapes.  The last section of geometry will focus on scaling and how this affects different aspects of a figure.  Our last mini-unit of the year is probability. – Mrs. Napolitano

Language Arts

Students are working on one last writing assignment. We have not spent much time on persuasive writing this year, so that will be our final writing genre. Students will write persuasively about things we could do to improve our middle school. If time allows, students will work on a final project about an independent reading book they chose to read this year. Ms. McGrath

Social Studies

We are ending the school year in Africa!  This massive continent has so much to offer. We will study the geography and political map of Africa.  Students will complete individual research on countries from six sections of the continent, a sampler so to speak.  We will look at traditional African crafts and some modern issues facing many countries in Africa. Be sure to ask students about tigers in Africa! Mrs. White
